Imagine sipping a stiff drink next to sandbags piled high in a London tube-station-cum-airraid-shelter. No, this isn’t London 1940, it’s London right now.
First find the secret underground station at Kingly Court just off Carnaby Street. Then follow the ‘To the trains’ sign down the stairs that look like wooden tube escalators to a ticket hall. Downstairs, at Cahoots, you will find a Forties inspired tube station complete with train carriage, bunk beds and sandbags.
A great love for details – the moquette fabric of the tube seats is vintage, the signage and tiles feel authentic – prevents Cahoots from feeling too gimmicky. The place has atmosphere, the Dig for Victory-style cocktails are potent, tasty and well priced for central London. Do try the the signature Tanqueray No. Ten Station Clock Cocktail, which is served in an actual working clock, which ticks backwards in time!
